And while interest in these hands-on hobbies spans across the country, some areas are more invested in crafting than others. To gauge which parts of the country have the most DIYers, Liberty London, a high-end fashion and luxury homeware brand, compiled a list of the top crafting cities in the United States. To obtain their findings, the company examined 76 different data points for the top 100 cities in the U.S. This included search data, local crafting resources, and social media interest. The company took the findings and used them to make a final rank for each city. The goal of the project was to see how popular different types of crafting have become across the country. At the top of the list of the top crafting cities in the U.S. is San Francisco, Calif. The Golden City had the densest craft-related searches and creative outlets among its relatively small population compared to other major areas. The company weights its results by population and area, so the Big Apple lost a few points due to the number of people living there. Overall, New York City came in fourth place for its number of craft councils and first for its resident's crafting education. Rounding out the top five is Chicago, Ill., Los Angeles, Calif., and Portland, Ore. At the bottom of the list is Honolulu, Hawaii, Chesapeake, Va., Scottsdale, Ariz., San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Enterprise, Nev. In addition to compiling a list of the top crafting cities in the U.S., Liberty London also used Google search data to identify the most popular crafting activities. Overall, pottery is the most popular activity in the country by 39.66 percent.
