The go-to scent of the season takes center stage in this fun and easy Pumpkin-Spice Scented DIY project. And when poured into tinted orange mason jars, they're given an especially autumnal glow. These make for great gifts or an easy way to add a touch of fall décor to your home. Or, simply use this project as the basis for making any type of scented candle, just swap the pumpkin for another essential oil. It's important to note that two pounds of chips yield 32 fluid ounces of wax.

What You'll Need

Materials

  • 2 pounds soy-wax chips
  • 6-inch wicks with tab
  • Glass vessels, such as tinted jars in various sizes
  • Wooden skewers
  • Yellow and red liquid dye
  • Pumpkin spice essential oil
  • Heatproof glass measuring cup

Instructions

  1. Place the wax chips in a heatproof glass measuring cup and heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds; stir. Repeat until completely melted.

Dip the wick tab in the melted wax and center it at the bottom of a jar. Wrap the other end of the wick around a skewer; knot. Rest the skewer across the top of the jar until wax dries.

  3. Add drops of the liquid dye to the melted wax, following about a one-to-three ratio of red dye to yellow dye and stir. Continue adding the dye until the wax is orange in color.

  4. Stir in about 40 drops of the pumpkin spice oil, total, for each cup of wax.

  5. Fill the jars, leaving a 1/4-inch rim at the top. Let set until firm; trim wicks.
